Looking up from the sports section, I catch her regarding me. She immediately resumes reading her section of the morning paper.
When I next look up, I meet her gaze again. I raise my eyebrows. She shakes her head and continues reading. Then I notice the date in the top margin. Uh-oh, now I'm in trouble. I should have booked the restaurant.
"Nearly forgot, darling. Happy anniversary!"
She smiles. "I thought you had. Are we dining at Maxim's tonight as usual?"
"Yes."
"Time?"
"Seven-thirty, I think."
"I hope you've confirmed the booking."
"Absolutely."
"Only, they closed down three months ago…"
